Lindsey Hunter of the Bulls makes suprise visit to Upward youth basketball end-of-season celebration on Dec. 13 at the North Shore Chinese Christian ChurchDeerfield, IL - Lindsey Hunter of the Chicago Bulls surprised players of the Upward youth basketball program with an unexpected visit to their end-of-the-season celebration on December 13. During his inspirational speech he shared his triumphs and tribulations as the oldest player in the NBA, and explained how his strong belief in God has given him the ability to help both himself and others during times of hardship or loss.

“Last year I was going to retire and go into coaching,” stated Hunter. “And then I found out that four teams wanted to draft me! I really believe that my relationship with God has given me the opportunity to last this long in the NBA and to also have the ability to mentor those players younger than myself.”

Upward is the world’s largest Christian sports program for children and the only one of its kind on the North Shore. This fall, volunteers from the North Shore Chinese Christian Church (NSCCC), in Deerfield, successfully recruited over 50 boys from the 1st to 4th grades, from all over the North Shore to play in its Upward basketball program.

“Each year some one million people around the world play, coach, referee, or volunteer in Upward sports leagues and camps hosted by more than 2,600 churches,” noted Jeff Chieng, an Upward volunteer coach and a member of the North Shore Chinese Christian Church. “Anyone can participate in Upward sports. We welcome children and volunteers of any faith or no faith, as Upward aims to bring out the winner in every child, regardless of the game’s score.”
